SKIING

VAL CENIS - GREAT SKIING FOR ALL ABILITIES

Val Cenis benefits from being the ideal combination of a quieter resort, with passionate local management. Continued investment in the skiing infrastructure with new lifts and gondolas, but still serving relatively quiet slopes in comparison to the bigger resorts in the French Alps.

  • 2019 sees the opening of the new 10 man Vieux Moulin telecabine with further links and lifts planned to open up more area over the next 10+ years.
  • There are over 125kms of marked piste, unlimited off piste, and the vertical drop of 1400m is amongst the highest in Europe.
  • For beginners and improvers, as well as easy slopes lower down, the 10km l’Escargot is the longest green in Europe, so novices can get up high, have a long ski in great scenery, without having to continually get on and off lifts.
  • The whole mountain is accessible to everyone – there is a blue for example from the very top, with stunning views over Lake Cenis.
  • Intermediates face a wide range of more difficult blues and reds, which follow natural courses above and below the tree line – not just poles in the snow.
  • Fresh tracks through snow covered trees is one of the specialities of Val Cenis.
  • More advanced skiers will love the challenging reds and long blacks, plus the tremendous off piste opportunities in open bowls, in the forest or around the lake.
  • We supply ESKIMO regional passes which includes one day in each of the following resorts; Valfrejus, La Norma, Aussois and Bonneval, as well as unlimited access to Val Cenis, a total of 350+km of pistes.

GROUP SKIING

SKI HOLIDAYS ARE MEANT TO BE FUN

Sometimes, however, when skiing with friends or family, differences in ability mean people ski faster or slower than they would ideally like. MGS understands this and we want clients to enjoy their holiday to the full, to get the most out of the mountain at their level.

  • MGS offers FREE group skiing in the afternoons, based roughly on ability.
  • We really know the area and want you to see the mountain properly, at a suitable pace and in a friendly atmosphere.
  • Each group has an MGS staff member and is led by an ESF instructor.
  • Clients should be able to comfortably ski a blue to join the improvers group, and there will also be intermediate and advanced groups.
  • These are client centred sessions – if everyone is a blue slopes skier, the groups will reflect this.
  • Having an ESF instructor means those wanting to start or improve off piste can progress safely.
  • Our clients enjoy the social aspect of skiing with others of a similar ability and get to see the mountain beyond the piste map.
  • Advanced skiers can have a different off piste adventure every afternoon!
  • It is one of the most popular aspects of our service and continually comes up in testimonials from new and existing customers.

We try our best to satisfy everyone!

Instruction

  • Instruction in Val Cenis is given by the Ecole de Ski Francais (ESF), and English speaking instructors are widely available. Through experience, MGS can match teaching to ability, we know for example which instructors are better for the less confident, or perhaps with children.
  • To learn there are basically two options; Ski school, for groups of 8-12, or private lessons for smaller numbers.
  • Ski school is cheaper and there is a social element, but, the instructor can only progress at the pace of the slowest, which may not suit everyone.
  • Private lessons for individuals or smaller groups, are more expensive, but each person receives more attention, tailored to individual needs.
  • Please contact the office for lesson options and prices, we will send details of how clients can pre-book instruction, so lesson tickets are waiting on arrival.

Equipment

  • MGS has worked with Jeannot Sports since the 1980s. This close relationship means access for our clients to all the latest gear, so you can be sure of great equipment, which hasn’t been overused or abused.
  • On arrival you will be given a ski fit time and our team meet you in the shop to ensure you get the right boots and skis or board.
  • You can easily change your equipment during the week if there are problems or if you want to try something different – there is no charge and the staff are understanding and friendly.
  • If you have your own gear, reduce the price of your holiday as indicated on our prices page.
