Brrrrr! This week has seen our first wedge of polar air moving through the Alps. This has been accompanied by strong winds from the North which has meant a hot drink after skiing has been very welcome.
Also, we have a new Instagram account which will be developing over the next few weeks, for those of you familiar with these things(!!??), we can be found at @mgsski_ and don’t forget the underscore.
The pistes are getting better every day. There have been a couple of very light snowfalls and the cannons have been going flat out at night. Together with much fewer people on the slopes this has meant we’re getting more normal conditions in many areas after the slippery period over New Year.
Off piste is still some way off with a crust preventing easy skiing, but again, hopefully things will be improving soon.
The forecast is promising. After sunshine tomorrow and most of Saturday, a depression will arrive during the night bringing snow showers which are supposed to continue throughout Sunday before weakening on Monday. Probably not a huge dump, but with a decent fall, conditions will be perfect. Tuesday is expected to be sunny, and then another smaller depression may develop Wednesday and bring cloudy periods with weak snow.
Hopefully a few days of some snow, and then the whole area both on and off piste will be tres jolly bon…
With some real stars arriving this weekend, we’re already looking forward to a fiercely contested MGS slalom next week, not quite the standard of the Europa Cup racers here at the beginning of this week, a great event for Val Cenis to stage and some coverage including some cool intro for Val Cenis can be seen here: Olympic Channel.
